Hi everyone! For those who don’t know, on March 10 I will be embarking on my journey to volunteer with Project Peanut Butter in Malawi (Southeastern Africa)! After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in December with a B.S. in Nutrition, I decided that before pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Health Nutrition, I wanted to get some hands on experience. Project Peanut Butter (PPB) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to advance the treatment of severe malnutrition, the single largest cause of child death in the world today, using effective, locally produced ready-to-use therapeutic foods.” For more info, visit this website: http://www.projectpeanutbutter.org/! I will be assisting at the Malawi site, traveling from our home compound in Blantyre to rural clinics each day, and assisting with ongoing research studies (word on the street is I get to help with a study based around children’s cognition and behavior, right up my alley as a Psychology nerd 🙂 Cal Poly has had a strong presence at this organization over the years, so I am happy to continue the legacy! I will be posting updates as often as I can, but due to the variability/accessibility of the internet, not sure how often that will be. I have around a 30 hour travel day to get to Malawi, including long layovers in Zurich, Switzerland, and Johannesburg, South Africa. Looking forward to sharing all my mishaps, adventures, challenges, and lessons learned with you all! Thanks for following along 🙂
